I was speaking to my designer yesterday and she was critiquing the website we are about to launch.  She was ‘horrified’ that the webmaster and I had chosen two different font styles, serif and sans serif.

“Does it really matter?” I asked.

“Yes!”  Her voice was a mixture of horror, disgust and exasperation.

I agree, to a point.

If my client doesn’t really want to abide by the ‘design rules’ then I’m okay with it.  Why?  I understand that they want something that looks good, but most important, they want something that they helped create.

As a marketing person who looks at the overall picture, I say the answer is much like a lot of things in life – the answer depends on many factors, including client preference.  Ultimately though, I put my foot down when it comes to clear communication, if the font distracts from the message, then I too would shoot the Serif.

What do you think?
